FSPA Seeks Member to Serve as Newsletter Managing Editor
We are seeking an FSPA member to serve in a volunteer capacity as Managing Editor to create and maintain an online quarterly newsletter for the organization.
Consistent with FSPA’s mission to bridge the gap between professional psychology and the fire service, the quarterly newsletter will serve as a vehicle to educate, inform, and connect members while highlighting ongoing work that advances firefighter psychological health, performance, and resilience.
Role Purpose
The Managing Editor will support FSPA’s mission by helping to ensure that member knowledge, professional insights, research, and organizational updates are communicated clearly and thoughtfully to the Association’s membership and partners. The newsletter reflects FSPA’s commitment to:
• Cultural competence in fire service psychology
• Evidence based practice and applied research
• Professional development and collaboration
• Service to firefighters, their families, and the professionals who support them
Responsibilities
The Managing Editor will:
• Coordinate development and publication of four online newsletter issues annually
• Solicit and organize content from FSPA members and invited contributors
• Edit submissions to ensure clarity, consistency, and alignment with FSPA’s professional standards
• Collaborate with FSPA’s Operations Chief, Robert Avsec, to ensure alignment of the newsletter themes with Association priorities
• Work with existing web or communications support to post newsletter content online
This role is designed to be collaborative and sustainable within the context of volunteer service to the Association.

Prior editorial experience is beneficial but not required.

Applied, research informed discussions addressing fire service psychology, behavioral health, leadership, ethics, and cultural considerations.
• Research and Practice Updates
Summaries of current research or evidence based practices relevant to firefighter mental health and performance.
• Clinical and Peer Support Perspectives
Reflections and insights from applied work with firefighters, fire families, and fire service organizations.
• Member Highlights
Recognition of FSPA members, professional contributions, program development, or initiatives aligned with the Association’s mission.
• Education and Training Updates
Information on conferences, webinars, continuing education opportunities, and training initiatives.
• FSPA News and Announcements
Updates from the Board, committees, or working groups related to Association initiatives or opportunities for engagement.
