FSPA MISSION STATEMENT
FSPA VISION STATEMENT
THE WORK OF FSPA IN RELATION TO THE FSPA MISSION
Our organization was created to bridge the gap between our communities through evolving our understanding of the population through research, training mental health clinicians to understand the fire service, and to educate the fire service about the psychological dynamics and occupational hazards inherent to firefighting and emergency medical services. Ultimately, we would like to build a community of fire service and mental health professionals specifically dedicated to fire service personnel and their families.
OUR STORY
The Fire Service Psychology Association was created in 2017 when the founder recognized there was little representation from the professional psychology community within the United States Fire Service. Without effective psychology prevention and intervention programs, firefighters are susceptible to being affected by the psychological occupational hazards of the profession, including post-traumatic stress, suicides, and poor interpersonal dynamics affecting women and people of color within the predominately white male workforce.
