Fire Service Psychology Association

Bridging the Gap Between Professional Psychology and the Fire Service

Learn About Us

Educate, Research, and Serve

Whether you are a Psychologist, Mental Health Provider, or Fire Department Leader, we welcome you to our page.

Firefighters have a unique culture and are exposed to cumulative trauma over the course of their careers. Few psychologists understand the needs of this population and a small amount fire departments include the valuable resources that professional psychology can offer.  The Fire Service Psychology Association was developed to bridge the gap between these two professions by empowering mental health providers through cultural competence, demonstrating the value of professional psychology in the fire service, as well as building psychological research on the needs of firefighters and their families. Our vision is to optimize firefighters performance on and off the job as well as create access to specialized psychological services unique to this population.

Members Benefits!

Mental Health Clinicians:

We host monthly peer consultation meetings for providers who are actively
working with firefighter populations. These meetings are considered a benefit of membership and offered at no charge.

Health and Safety Officers:

We offer virtual consultations to Fire Safety Officers who are interested in creating and implementing Behavioral Health Programs in their departments. These meetings are considered a benefit of membership and offered at no charge. A licensed psychologist will be in attendance so you can bounce ideas off this professional.
