Members of the Fire Service Psychology Association assembled in Atlanta for two days of networking and informative and educational presentations on a variety of topics related to behavioral health for the fire service.
FSPA is grateful for the hospitality and support provided by Fire Chief Rod Smith and his people with the Atlanta Fire Rescue Department.
Thank you, Georgia Tech Fire Marshal Bridget Mourao and everyone at Georgia Tech for providing such wonderful conference facilities and food service!
Conference Day #1
Brandy Carlson-Moore presented "Developing a Behavioral Health Access Program for firefighters and their families."
Chief Avsec and Dr. Bisek delivered their presentation, "Give Me 5: The Domains of Fire Service Psychology."
Dr. Sawyer and Ms. Brown presented on "Fire Service Mental Health and Wellness in a Small, Rural State: Filling Gaps and Overcoming Barriers"
Fire Marshal Vince Anderson from the Redlands (Calif.) Fire Department provided attendees with another perspective on behavioral health in the fire service with his presentation, "The Unique Stressors of Fire Prevention Personnel"
Battalion Chief (Ret.) James Peal captivated the audience with his presentation, "Saving Ourselves…a Systems Approach"
Conference Day #2
Dr. Birkley and FF/PM Elliott spoke about the "Origin and Development of the Peer Support Program in the Cincinnati Fire Department"
Mr. Michael Anthony Schlenk described "Using the A.M.E.S. (Assemble, Measure, Execute, Systematic Use) organizational health assessment to assess public safety provider behavioral health."
Ms. Gustė Gramaglia traveled from Lithuania to deliver a presentation on "Understanding what motivates firefighters to work and challenges to that motivation"
Dr. Abby Morris delivered her presentation on "The Effects of Sleep Deprivation on Firefighters"
Dr. Kristin Wheldon, founder and president of FSPA, delivers an overview of "Trauma Risk Management (TRiM)"
