One of our new members was discussing what the job description of a psychologist looks like for the fire service. We explored the difference between a clinician and an administrator. An administrator would oversee the contractors or department staff psychologist who would provide direct clinical services. Depending on the department size, it might be helpful to have one psychologist administrator cover a county. They could oversee preemployment screening contract, EAP service providers, return to work processes, and peer support. They could also provide mental health/performance psychology training. What are your thoughts?

I’m betting that this topic came from one of our FSPA Kitchen Table Meetings (KTM) that take place on the 3rd Wednesday of the month beginning at 10:00 am PST / 1:00 pm EDT. And that’s the beauty of those KTMs: We never know what topics are going to come up, what information is there to be shared, and what new connections can be made.
