Chief Chris Fennell has served the Flagstaff Fire Department since 1999 and has become a leading advocate for first responder mental health across Northern Arizona. Recognizing an increase in first responder suicides, he spearheaded the development of a comprehensive behavioral health program that provides mental health training, annual wellness assessments, counseling services, critical incident support, and rapid access to care.
Through partnerships with community mental health providers, Chief Fennell helped create a model that has expanded beyond the fire service to law enforcement and healthcare agencies throughout the region. His efforts have contributed to a significant cultural shift, normalizing mental health care and encouraging first responders to seek support without stigma.
A trusted leader and compassionate advocate, Chief Fennell has transformed behavioral health services for first responders and strengthened the well-being of countless firefighters, EMS professionals, law enforcement officers, and their families.
